James Mitchell, Jr., a Democrat, represents Charlotte City Council District 2. Elected in 1999, he is now serving his sixth term on Council.  

 

Council member Mitchell chairs the Housing and Neighborhood Development Committee and vice-chairs the Economic Development Committee.  He is a member of the Restructuring Government Committee and  the Council Representative to the Visitors Advisory Committee.

 

Council Member Mitchell serves as second vice president of the National League of Cities (NLC), is chairman of the National Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials (NBC-LEO) Foundation, is a board member of the National League of Cities Leadership Training Council, Institute of Youth, Education, and Family and Advisory Council. He is past president of the National Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials (NCBEMO) and served on the board of the North Carolina League of Municipalities (NCLM).
