Patrick D. Cannon, a Democrat, is an At-Large Representative on Charlotte City Council.  He was first elected in 1993 and served six consecutive terms, three as the representative from City Council District 3 and two At-Large terms in the capacity of Mayor Pro Tem.  He chairs the Community Safety Committee and vice-chairs the Restructuring Government Committee.  He is also a member of the Housing and Neighborhood Development Committee.

Cannon served on the National League of Cities as a member and on Community and Economic Development Steering Committees as well as Crime Control and Public Safety Policy Committees.   He was Second Vice-President of the National Black Political Caucus of Local Elected Officials, served on the North Carolina Leagues of Municipalities and was a former Governor James B. Hunt appointee to the North Carolina Governor's Crime Commission.

Cannon also served as a board member for A Child's Place, City Council past representative to the Centralina Council of Governments, City Council past representative to the Blumenthal Performing Arts Board of Trustees, City Council past representative to the Charlotte Center City Partners.  In addition he served on the Mecklenburg Black Political and is a life member of the NAACP and member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.

Council Member Cannon received his Bachelor's Degree in Communications with a concentration in Business Marketing from North Carolina A & T State University in Greensboro. He also holds a certificate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's Institute of Government.

Cannon is a small business owner, operating and managing a parking management firm he founded in 1998.  He is also a managing partner for a business development and consulting firm.

He and his wife Trenna have a daughter and a son.
