Pet Food Bank

Second Harvest

America's economic crisis is forcing more and more families to make the difficult decision to give up their pets because they can no longer afford to feed them. CMPD Animal Care & Control has partnered with Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina to assist income-eligible families with food for their dogs and cats to make sure families can keep their pets.

***URGENT UPDATE***

Donations to the Pet Food Bank have dropped dramatically and food supplies are at an all-time low. Please read below to see how you can help!

  • Make a monetary donation to Animal Care & Control – Attention: Pet Food Bank Donation – 8315 Byrum Drive, Charlotte, NC, 28217.
  • Drop off donations of pet food to 8315 Byrum Drive or to Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, 500-B Spratt Street, Charlotte, NC, 28206.
  • Host a pet food drive
    • To pick up a collection barrel and poster contact Toni Morris with Second Harvest at 704-375-9639, ext 24.
    • Download a printable Pet Food Drive flyer to let people know about your event.
    • Return the donations you receive to the Animal Care & Control shelter at 8315 Byrum Drive, Charlotte, NC, 28217.
    • Send us pictures of your event! Email them to Melissa Knicely. Be sure to include your name and organization information.

All types of pet food are needed – dry and canned food for dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens.
Open food containers cannot be accepted because this food is distributed to the public.
Smaller bags of 10 pounds or less are preferred because they are easier to store and distribute.
